The North West Department of Education made the province proud by securing a remarkable nine awards at the prestigious 24th National Teaching Awards, held at Birchwood Hotel on Saturday, 05 October 2024.
This impressive achievement crowns the North West as the overall winner, with a score of 56.2%, and it marks a significant milestone in recognizing excellence in education. The province claims three first-place awards, four second-place awards, and two third-place awards, making it the leading province at the national event.
Two of the winning teachers walk away with brand-new cars, in addition to other exciting prizes, further accentuating the Department’s commitment to rewarding and empowering teachers who go above and beyond in their service to learners and communities.
The awards ceremony coincides with the global celebration of World Teachers’ Day, observed annually on 05 October. This year’s theme, *“Empowering Teachers: Strengthening Resilience, Building Sustainability,”* resonates deeply with the North West’s achievements, as the province continues to empower and support educators in navigating the ever-evolving educational landscape.
The event is graced by dignitaries, including the President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa; Minister of Education, Siviwe Gwarube; Deputy Minister, Dr Reginah Mhaule, and Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi among others.
Their presence underscore the national importance of honouring the dedication and hard work of educators across the country.
The MEC for Education in the North West Province, Viola Motsumi, expresses her heartfelt congratulations to the award-winning teachers,
