NW EDUCATION HELD WINTER CAMPS IN CELEBRATING THE YOUTH MONTH

In an effort to protect learners from gallivanting the streets during the Youth Month, the North West Department of Education hosted training camps in Potchefstroom and Rustenburg from 17th until 19th June 2022

The purpose of the camps were for teams to prepare for their National School Sport Championship known as Winter Games, which will be held in Stellenbosch University, Cape Town on 3 until 6 July 2022.

The teams of learners which were at the camps in both Potchefstroom and Rustenburg were from different sporting codes namely; Volleyball, Netball, Chess, Kho-kho, Jukskei, Football, Hockey, Rugby and Tennis.

The MEC for Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela insisted that such camps are planned to celebrate the Youth Month and to keep learners physically fit.

“As a department our responsibility is to ensure that, we empower learners academically and expose any talent they might have. These camps are aimed at keeping learners physically fit and to nature their talent.

“We remember the role played by the 1976 generation in transforming the education system of our country. The current cohort of learners are the beneficiaries of that struggle and as a department we should support them in all areas. We are confident that they will make the province proud at the end of games”, said MEC Matsemela.

The Winter Games Competitions amongst schools started from the Sub – district, proceeded to the District level, Provincial level and now it will be proceeding to National level.
