North West Department of Education Teachers to Attend Seminar in China

The North West Department of Education is pleased to announce that Mr Tebogo Mokwene, Ms Constance Kgomotso Pilane, and Ms Lesego Brenda Mokotedi have been selected to attend a seminar in China from 15 October-04 November 2023.

Mr Mokwene “Jobe wa Maths” as he is affectionately known and Ms Pilane are both NTA winners for 2019 (FET and GET) and experts in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District. Ms Mokotedi is the deputy principal of Mafenya Primary School in the Bojanala District.

The seminar is part of a teacher capacity-building program conceptualized by the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and the Chinese Embassy where 25 maths experts from different parts of the country were chosen to attend based on their participation in an online program in 2022.

The seminar will provide an opportunity for the teachers to learn about the latest trends and best practices in mathematics education in China. They will also have the opportunity to network with Chinese teachers and officials.

The MEC for North West Department of Education Viola Motsumi is proud to have three of her teachers selected to attend this prestigious seminar to be part of the “cream of the crop”.

“ I am confident that our teachers are part of this wonderful opportunity. They will benefit greatly from the experience having shared best practice with cream of the crop lateral thinkers and that they will return to South Africa with new knowledge and skills that they can share with their colleagues and students”, Motsumi expressed.

The North West Department of Education wishes them all the best.
