GRADE 9 LEARNER STABBED TO DEATH OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL YARD
The North West MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela was shocked to hear about an incident of an 18 years old learner who was stabbed to death outside the school premises of Kopanelo Secondary School at Shaleng Village near Khunwana on Friday, 17 January 2020.
It is alleged that around 7:00 in the morning outside the school premises, the Grade 9 learner was stabbed on the chest on the side of the heart when he stepped out of the bus by a female suspect who does not attend school.
It is alleged that after the incident the suspect ran away and was later arrested by the police. The motive for the incident is still unknown.
The North West MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela condemned in strongest terms the stabbing to death of a learner especially at the beginning of the year.
“On behalf of the entire department I would like to convey our sincere condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased learner and the school community. This is a very unfortunate incident; we are extremely shocked and amazed. As a department we condemn any act of violence in our schools. Our schools are centres of teaching and learning not centres of violence. We want justice to take its full course against the person who has committed this terrible act”, said MEC Matsemela.
MEC Matsemela highlighted that, teachers and the learners of the school will be provided with counselling.
Details of the memorial service and the funeral will be communicated in due cause.
