School sport is one of the extracurricular activities that stimulates a learner’s holistic well-being in and outside the classroom. For this reason, the North West Department of Education MEC Viola Motsumi sets to launch Wednesday school sport which has games such as Chess, Basketball, Football, Netball, and Volleyball for U12s and U16s for both boys and girls.
The launch will be detailed as follows:
Date: Wednesday, 02 August 2023
Venue: Ikageng Stadium, Potchefstroom
Time: 09:00 for launch and 10:00 for games.
MEC Motsumi says school sport is necessary for promoting good health, and social cohesion, and should be part of the school culture in order to maintain quality education.
“Physical education not only does promote a learner’s sportsmanship ability but it has a myriad of effects on a learner’s. I believe a well-rounded learner that has mental strength is honed both in and outside the classroom. It is for this reason we launch Wednesday school sport.
“For us to reach the top three spot, we need our learners to have a sense of discipline, respect for others, and respect for a time all these can be honed through sport.
I wish to encourage parents to spare children to make time for their sport Wednesday”, Motsumi explained.
School sport will be ongoing every Wednesday.
Media houses are invited to attend.
