NW EDUCATION ENCOURAGES LEARNERS IN SCHOOL WHO ARE BETWEEN 18 AND 12 YEARS TO VACCINATE

Following the outbreak of the Omicron variant in the country, the North West Department of Education is encouraging learners in school who are between 12 and 18 years to participate in the Vooma Vaccination Campaign by getting vaccinated.

Majority of learners across the province have almost finished writing their examinations hence the department is encouraging them to vaccinate. All learners in the lower grades have completed writing their examinations except some of Grade 12 learners who are still to write Computer Applications Technology (CAT) on 07 December 2021.

MEC of Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela emphasized the importance of learner vaccination during this recess period.

“On behalf of the department I would like to urge parents of learners to remind learners to vaccinate. We are living in very difficult times of the pandemic and we have to listen to the government on how to protect ourselves against the virus. As a department we agreed that, we are not going to disturb our children during the period of the examination but now that they have finished writing. We are encouraging them to use this period of the recess to vaccinate. We have also agreed with the Department of Health to use our schools as centres for vaccination”, said MEC Matsemela.

MEC Matsemela further encouraged learners to use any vaccination sites nearby their area where they stay.
