NW EDUCATION ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF THE NATIONAL TEACHING AWARDS
On Friday, 03 September 2021 the North West department of Education held its 21st National Teaching Awards (NTAs) to honour and acknowledge teachers who take remarkable strides in educating its community on an event that took place at Kingsgate Hotel in Rustenburg.
A great variety of different categories were represented. The diversity on display in terms of leadership demonstrated fantastically a growing dedication to responsible teaching practices.
The award ceremony catered for 14 categories. The outstanding accolade is a Shero/ Hero award which goes to the teacher who outperformed during Covid-19 pandemic. The award went to Mr Obositse Oageng Ezekiel of Maeketso Primary School.
Another accolade goes to the Combrinks- a father and son who each received Awards in two different categories. The father, was awarded Lifetime achievement while the son received on special needs.
The rest of the winners in their different accolades are:
• Grade R teaching: Adell Lebabo, Moremogolo Primary School
• Primary school teaching: Anneke Ritcher, Protea Park Primary School
• Secondary School Teaching: Tshiamo Nkoana Maquassi Hills English School
• Primary School Leadership: Phillip Mphahlele, Kloof View Primary
• Secondary School Leadership: Lerato Tlhabane, Reboneilwe Secondary School
• Mathematics: Albert Mohitlhi, Joseph Sako Primary
• Physical Science: Sunette Von Molkte, Bloemhof Combined School
• Special Needs: Willem Combrink, Janie Schnider Special School
• Lifetime Achievement: Casper Jeremiah Combrink Casper, Oom Paul Special School
• Technology Enhanced: Nkagisang Bridget Maruping, Kopanang Primary School
• Best Teacher: Agnes Rasesemola, Sunrise View Secondary
• S/Hero: Obositse Oageng Ezekiel, Maiketso Primary School
• Kader Asmal Award: Mogageng Masilo,
• Best district: Bojanala
MEC for Education in the North West province congratulated the winners and expressed her confidence as they will represent the province in the nationals.
“NTAs mean so much to me as we get to focus our public attention on the positive aspects of basic education which is teaching as well to honour teachers as revolutionary agents of change who raise the public image of the teaching profession. Honouring these men and women come at a good place as they are a backbone of a civilised nation.
“I am confident that this cohort will represent the province at nation al level. To those who are not going to obtain the top positions in their categories, I want to thank them and emphasize that as a department we are proud of them. For every teacher to be at this stage of the competition it means they are doing something remarkable for our children in school. All I want to them is don’t give up, go back and enter the competition again,” expressed Matsemela.
The enlisted winners will represent the province at national level on Wednesday, 06 October 2021.
