This follows after one educator from Rutanang Primary School in Geelhout Park who was shot at the school gates, two learners from Bloemhof Primary School who died from a combi accident. Still last week at Kutlwanong Special School for the Deaf near Phokeng the principal and the General Asistant died separately from natural causes, a deputy principal of Tlhoafalo Secondary school in Sannieshof died of natural causes, the teacher of the same school died in a horrific car accident and on Tuesday, 07 June 2022 the department lost another Principal from Tlhabane Technical School.

This makes it to seven deaths in one week.

The MEC for Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela was very disturbed by the numbers of officials who died in the department.

“On behalf of the department I am concerned of the large numbers of officials who have died in the recent weeks from the department.

“Last week was the most difficult week as we witnessed many deaths including the road accidents that involved learners. This is a threat of losing employees with a huge experience all at once. We call all communities to put the departmental officials in their prayers during this difficult time”,said MEC Matsemela.

MEC Matsemela also pleaded with the public to pray against the spate of suicide that is affecting school learners across the province.
