NORTH WEST EDUCATION CONGRATULATES TLHAMPE FOR REGISTERING WITH DRAKENSBERG BOYS CHOIR SCHOOL

The North West Department of Education wishes to congratulate Lukhanyo Tlhampe, a 14 years old boy in Grade 7 at Laerskool President Pretorius. He was accepted after completing a written examination and a successful audition for the famed choir of the prestigious, world class Drakensberg Boys Choir School which was held in September 2020.

Lukhanyo is gifted with an extraordinary talent for a boy of his age. He mesmerized everyone during his performance for the famed choir and his velvety smooth voice takes you on a journey of sound and emotion. Lukhanyo, who hails from Ikageng in Potchefstroom, is a well-known singer in his church, amongst his peers and teachers at school. He is one of the few selected from across South Africa (boys 9-14) for this prestigious boarding school.

The interruption of normal living for everyone by Covid-19 could not stop Lukhanyo from reaching his dream. During the academic year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, learners could not participate in any extra-curricular activities for example music, sport, art, etc. This was due to the fear of the spread of Covid-19.

The Political Head of the Department MEC Mmaphefo Matsemela could not hide her excitement after hearing of Lukhanyo’s achievement.

“On behalf of the Department I am totally over the moon! Lukhanyo has made us extremely proud residents of this province. I would really like to congratulate him for being accepted into this prestigious school that has produced a plethora of music super-stars. This shows that our province is the home of talented scholars, our schools are a treasure chest just waiting to be opened with all the hidden and unpolished talents and our teachers are the key to their discovery. I believe his move to the Drakensberg Boys Choir School will inspire other learners not to despair and that your background does not determine your destination in life, your attitude does that.” said MEC Matsemela.

Lukhanyo Tlhampe indicated that his dream when he turns 16 is to be afforded the opportunity to take part in ‘Idols’ , the popular music competition which has afforded many South Africans the opportunity to reach their dream of being a famed performer.

“I am very excited to be following my dream which I have had since I was young. I can’t wait to meet my new friends at a new school. One day when I am 16 , I would like to take part in the Idols competition”, said Lukhanyo.

We wish Lukhanyo all of the best on this new chapter of his life’s journey and know that he will make a great success of this opportunity that has been afforded to him.
