MEC for Education in the North West, Viola Motsumi lauds North West winners who participated and won at the 9th National Education Excellence Awards, held on Friday, October 6, 2023, at the Premier Hotel O.R. Tambo in Kempton Park in Johannesburg.
The National Excellence Awards are a way for the Department of Basic Education to recognize the outstanding performance of districts and schools. The department honours the hard work and dedication of officials and educators through the excellence awards.
The following North West Department of Education winners received awards:
Potchefstroom Gimnasium Secondary School in Dr Kenneth Kaunda district obtained first place in the category of Top Performing Public Ordinary School in the quintile 4 category.
Modimola Primary School in Ngaka Modiri Molema District obtained third place in the category of Most Improved Full-service school.
In the district categories,
Bojanala district obtained the first position in the top district with the most National Teaching Awards winners in the part two years (2021-2022) category.
MEC Motsumi congratulates the winners who represented the province.
“These awards recognize hard work, dedication, and commitment in the workplace. I am happy that some of our schools are coming from our very own province,” she said.
“Next year, I want to see more schools taking part in these competitions. I know that in our province, we have hardworking teachers who will be able to compete at a national level with other provinces.”
MEC Motsumi also indicated that the department will support all schools, including primary schools, in the same way that it supports secondary schools.
Winners walked away with trophies and certificates of recognition.
