MATRIC EXAMS IN THE NORTH WEST STARTS SMOOTHLY

The North West Department of Education reported no mishaps on the first day of examinations, 23 October 2019.

The Province registered 39 954 candidates for the 2019 examinations who sat for the English first paper in 435 centres identified.

This nod of good progress comes amidst the 275 candidates from Valuveer, Gaopalelwe, Thuto Lore and Bloemhof Combined who had to be relocated following violent protests in the area. All learners were successfully evacuated yesterday from the endangered centres and were dispatched to safer centres.

MEC for Education in the North West Mmaphefo Matsemela confirmed candidates did not experience difficulties on their first paper.

“Everything went well with no irregularities reported. All papers were delivered and opened on time. Instructions were clarified to learners before they started writing,” Matsemela said.

Candidates also sat for the IsiXhosa first paper on Thursday 24 October in which no incidents reported.
