MEC MATSEMELA WISHES GOOD LUCK TO BOITUMELO MOHULATSI WHO ENTERED A MATHEMATICS COMPETITION

The North West Department of Education MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela wishes good luck to Boitumelo Mohulatsi an 18 year old Grade 12 learner at Coligny Secondary school who entered a Virtual Mathematics competition.

The main aim of the competition is to educate the society about some principles, fundamental concepts, important theorems in mathematics and mathematicians in general. Knowledge of mathematics is not a pre-requisite to participate, the aim is to educate above everything.

Boitumelo Mohulatsi is very passionate about mathematics and wants to be a Medical doctor or do a Bachelor of Mathematics after finishing his studies at the university.

“My favourite subject is mathematics and I enjoy solving different concepts in this subject. Last year I obtained a distinction in Mathematics and now that I am in Grade 12 my target is 100% including in other subjects. I am privately studying an Advance Mathematics course which is done at university; the reason for this is to sharpen my skill in this subject. I found this completion through a friend and I believe it will assist me to further my dreams in mathematics”, said Mohulatsi.

Dr Simo Mthethwa the founder of the Mthethwamatics expressed that the winners of the competition will be mentored by experts.

“The learning component of this competition is done through allowing participants to consult with whomever that may be able to assist them, be it a teacher, tutor, parent or online platforms. Once the participant is confident to have grasped the concept then the video (max 2 mins) detailing the concept given in their category should be conducted and submitted to us via WhatsApp/Telegram to 0827766660. The winners will be will be mentored by the experts in mathematics”, said Dr Mthethwa.

The Political head of the department MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela conveyed her special wishes to Mohulatsi.

“On behalf of the department I would like to wish good luck to this young future mathematician. Many people are scared to do this subject but Boitumelo is passionate and fascinated buy it. As a department we encourage learners across the province to follow on his footsteps and work hard in their studies”, said MEC Matsemela.

Luckson Gudo who is Mohulatsi’s mathematics teacher indicated that he was a committed and disciplined learner. He said, he is always willing to assist other learners in class.

The winner of the competition will be announced on 03 April 2021 and the top prizes will be cellphones and study guides.
