MEC MATSEMELA PROUD OF ELETSA SECONDARY SCHOOL UNDER 16 SOCCER TEAM THAT REPRESENTED SOUTH AFRICA AT THE PAN AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

The North West Department of Education is still proud of Eletsa Secondary School boys Under 16 Soccer Team which represented the country at the Pan African Championships for Schools held at the Democratic Republic of Congo from 17 to 21 February 2022.

The Under 16 Soccer Team left the country on Wednesday, 16 February 2022 to the Democratic Republic of Congo to participate in the Pan African Championships for Schools. The team played against 5 countries namely, Benin, Ethiopia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal and Morocco.

Unfortunately the South African boys team lost their three games and drew 1 – 1 against Senegal. At the end of the tournament, they were at the bottom of the group.

The MEC for the department of Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela expressed her pride on the team irrespective of their performance.

“On behalf of the North West Department of Education, l would like to express my sincere gratitude on these boys from Eletsa Secondary school for putting our province on the international map. I really believe this group already has a bright future ahead of them, many professional football teams will snatch some of them. To us they remain as our hiroes because they are like soldiers who died with their boots on”, said MEC Matsemela.

During the closing ceremony all teams of boys and girls displayed their cultural dance to showcase their diversity of African countries.

The team is expected to arrive back in our country on Tuesday, 22 February 2022 in the afternoon.
