MEC MATSEMELA EMBARKED ON AN INTERVENTION ROADSHOW TO UNDERPERFORMING SCHOOLS IN DR RSM DISTRICT

In efforts to improve the matric results of the North West province, MEC Mmaphefo Matsemela kick-started an intervention roadshow of motivating 30 underperforming schools of Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District in Vryburg on 08 – 09 September 2022.

The 30 underperforming schools are those schools which obtained less than 70% in their 2021 final matric examinations and are categorised according to their sub-districts as follows:

* Greater Taung 14

*Kagisano Molopo 5

*Lekwateemane 11

During those sessions schools were given an opportunity to present and outline their challenges and a team of experts adviced them on how to overcome situation.

The MEC for Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela highlighted that the underperforming schools are placed on the spotlight of the department.

“These schools are given special attention to get out of the trap zone of 70% by zooming into their problematic areas.
This strategy has worked miraculously in the past. We know that when they go back to their schools and they will implement these strategies.

“These sessions pay dividends in improving the position of the province Nationally. This year the province is targeting to be amongst the top 3 positions in the country. The session lasted for two days started with Greater Taung and followed by Naledi Sub District”said MEC Matsemela.

MEC Matsemela further indicated that the underperforming schools are coupled with the best performing school principals to share best practices.

The interventions are held under the theme of “Ngwana Sejo o a tlhakanelwa” meaning it takes the whole Village to raise a child.

MEC Matsemela is expected to visit the underperforming schools of Bojanala District this week.
