MEC MATSEMELA CONVEYS HER CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY OF A TEACHER SHOT ON HER WAY TO WORK

The North West Education MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela was shocked and saddened to hear about the untimely death of a Grade 12 teacher, who was allegedly shot dead at Tlhabane West, Rustenburg on Tuesday, 23 July 2019.

It is alleged that in the morning between 05:00 and 05:30 the lady teacher who was teaching Life Orientation and English subjects at Rakoko Secondary school in Mabieskraal Village, was shot dead at the gate of her home while waiting for the bus to school.

MEC Matsemela, who was shocked by the sad news, highlighted that the society has lost a light.

“On behalf of the department I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to the entire family and the school community of Rakoko Secondary school. It is a very difficult moment to the department since the Grade 12 learners will be writing their Preliminary examinations in few weeks. Learners have lost a very important person because she provided them with knowledge. The nation without teachers is a doomed nation”, said MEC Matsemela

MEC Matsemela highlighted that the department has lost a passionate and dedicated teacher.

The department has arranged counselling for both learners and teachers and the memorial service will be held on Thursday, 01 August 2019 at Rakoko Secondary school at 12:00.

The South African Police Service, are currently conducting their investigations on the matter.
