LET US DEAL AWAY WITH A LOT OF ACTING POSITIONS IN THE NORTH WEST DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION” – MEC MOTSUMI

The North West Department of Education MEC, Viola Motsumi during the Districts Extended Management Meeting emphasized that there is a need to deal away with too many acting positions existing in the department on Friday, 12 May 2023 at Ferdinand Postma Secondary School in Potchefstroom.

In another meet and greet roadshow, MEC Motsumi with all four districts departmental officials who are at the cold face of service delivery with schools expressed that, people with qualifications for positions should be appointed. The district extended management teams consist of curriculum coordinators – General Education and Training (GET) and Further Education and Training (FET) Circuit Managers, and Institutional Governance Support Services (IGSS).

“There are many acting positions in this department and that is costing the department so dearly. Let’s check on how we can deal away with those acting positions as they are creating problems for the department. We can’t keep on keeping people for over a year in acting positions without appointing them.

“If people have gone through the process of interviews, let us continue with the process of appointing them. Why do we wait for a period of 1 or 2 years before appointing somebody when there’s a need for the position? There must be leadership in the department to execute its responsibilities.

“From the first of June together with the senior managers, we should start with the process of appointing people who have been acting in those vacant positions. We have the power to change the current status quo, we can’t sit back and allow mediocrity in the department”, said MEC Motsumi.

District officials were permitted to raise questions to the senior managers.

MEC Motsumi revealed that her dream is to establish sports hubs in all the districts. This will assist to produce sportsmen and women who could be able to compete internationally representing South Africa.

Issues raised by the district officials will be answered per district by the district directors.
