“BULLYING AND GANGSTERISM IN SCHOOLS IS NORMARLY NECESSITATED BY OVER AGED LEARNERS”, MEC MATSEMELA

The North West Education MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela emphasized that schools when admitting learners, should follow the admission policy of the department.

In a whistle blow stop roadshow with the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Management, Principals and School Governing Bodies held at Vaal Reefs Technical School, MEC Matsemela indicated that bullying and gangsterism is necessitated by over aged learners in schools.

“We should not allow over aged learners to attend school with young learners. Children will be admitted to school according to their age. School Governing Bodies should be responsible in monitoring the admission policy of their schools. They should regularise admission of learners in schools”, said MEC Matsemela.

MEC Matsemela highlighted that schools need to intensify their policies against learners found in possession of drugs.
“School Governing Bodies need to suspend learners who are found in possession of drugs. Parents should work with schools in ensuring that schools are safe”, said MEC Matsemela.

MEC Matsemela appealed to all principals to allow the current over aged learners in the system to finish and exit school.

“I am pleading with all principals to allow over aged learners, who are now in the education system to finish schooling. They must abide by the school policies at all the times and if they fail to do so. They will be advised accordingly to go to adult centers and counseling will be arranged for them.

MEC Matsemela highlighted that the North West Education department will launch a Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign which will challenge communities to partner with the department in ensuring safety in schools.

MEC Matsemela further closed by indicating that admission to over aged learners will take place on exceptional cases only.
