Inspite of minor glitches experienced by the North West Department of Education, the matric examination ran smoothly on the first and second day.

Four schools in Ngaka Modiri Molema District namely; J. M. Lekgetha in Lichtenburg, Ikopanyeng Secondary, Gaesegwe and Upper Setlagole Primary Schools in Ratlou Local Municipality their roofs were blown off by the hail storm few days before the writing of the final matric examination.

On Tuesday morning, 01 November 2022, taxis in Zeerust embarked on a massive protest and blockaded the roads in the entire town. Out of 13 schools only 5 were affected. Learners started late in writing the Economics paper at 10:00.

The MEC for Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela was satisfied with the progress registered by the schools.

“So far I am truly satisfied by the progress registered by the province. All our schools have written successfully on the first and the second day.

“The challenges of storm damages experienced in Ngaka Modiri Molema District and the taxi protest could not deter our province in writing the examinations. I would like to appeal to our communities to allow learners space to write examination without any distraction. As a province we have a target to achieve and we want learners to be given a fair chance to make us proud”, said MEC Matsemela.

MEC Matsemela further indicated that they have assigned Work Inspectors to the storm damaged schools to conduct assessment on the extent of the damages.

MEC Matsemela monitored the writing of examinations at Onkgopotse Tiro Technical and Ikageleng Technical Schools near Zeerust.
