A 45 year old female educator was shot dead outside the school gate of Rutanang Primary school in Geelhout Park near Rustenburg on Tuesday, 31 May 2022. It is alleged that the horrific incident happened around 06:55 during the arrival of educators and learners.

Immediately after the incident happened an onlooker arrived and called the police and the paramedics. The paramedics on arrival declared the educator dead.

The MEC for  North West Department of Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela who was extremely gutted condemned the incident.

“On behalf of the department l am extremely angry by the situation and strongly condemn this horrible incident that happened in front of our school. I am totally disappointed that all the social ills from the community are finding expression in our schools.

“Our communities are the reflection of what is happening in our schools. Now it’s time as the society we reflect on these challenges facing our schools. I believe the police will find those behind the horrible incident”, said MEC Matsemela.

MEC Matsemela further conveyed her condolences to the family of the bereaved educator and the entire school community.

The department has sent a team of counselors who have already started counseling both the learners and the educators affected by the incident.
