NW EDUCATION ON THE RISE AGAIN

The North West Department of Education is pleased with the 2021 matric results as the province achieved a 78.2 percent pass rate, a 2% increase from the class of 2020. This placed the province at fourth position in the country.

The province had 439 high schools sitting for the final examinations. 325 of the schools performed beyond 70% percent pass rate. This translates to 74.2 percent of the schools performing above 70%pass rate.
The rest of the pass rate is as follows:

• Bachelor passes obtained are 13, 875
• Diploma passes are 10, 794
• Higher certificate passes are 7, 470
• Special needs schools has 32, 143 passes.

MEC for Education in the province, Mmaphefo Matsemela is pleased with the results and

“I am pleased with the 2021 pass rate. Even though still under the cloud of Covid-19 we managed to finish the syllabus on time with the dedication of our learners and teachers.
This is encouraging for the class of 2022 as well. From here, we aim for the top 3”, said Matsemela.

Matsemela further commended farm and special schools

“I am particularly pleased with the performance of farm and special schools. One of the farm schools that performed well is Onkgopotse Tiro Comprehensive school with a pass rate of 97.5%, Naawpoort High School at 100% while Meerhof Special School obtained 100% pass rate.
This proves the level of dedication of our teaching in providing quality education for all learners.

The department resumed teaching and learning on Tuesday, 18 January 2022.
