MEC MATSEMELA TO MONITOR SCHOOL READINESS AT BOIKHUTSONG VILLAGE

The 14 kilometres distance travelled in school buses by learners from Boikhutsong Village near Ventersdorp to Tshirologo Primary School in Goedgevonden Village to attend school will be a thing of the past as from the reopening of schools on Monday, 15 February 2021.

Boikhutsong Village is situated 20 kilometres away from Ventersdorp and since its inception there was no school for the learners. Learners from the area were subjected into traveling to nearby villages to attend school.

The North West Department of Education intervened in 2018 and promised the community to build them a brick and mortar school. A task team constituting of the community members, JB Marks Local Municipality officials and the departmental officials was established to kick-start the process of building the school. Already now the process of the new school has started with 12 mobile classrooms to accommodate the learners.

The departmental political Head MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela will monitor the school readiness at the new school of Boikhutsong Village which will be operating for the very first time during the reopening.

“Our responsibility is to ensure that every learner has a right to education and this school will operate for the very first time when schools reopen. Tomorrow I will visit this school to monitor their readiness to welcome learners when schools reopen. I will check, if they implement the Covid – 19 protocols which are our non – negotiables”, said MEC Matsemela.
