MEC MATSEMELA APPRECIATES A DONATION OF ABLUTION FACILITIES TO 4 SCHOOLS

A good gesture in developing communities was received by Moses Kotane Local Municipality community in Moruleng when Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine donated ablution facilities and upgraded clinics on Friday, 06 November 2020.

The Department of Education and Health bacame the major beneficiaries of the positive gesture. The donation of ablution facilities is line with the objective of government of eradication pit toilets in all schools.

The Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine spent R8,9 million in the building of the ablution facilities at Makuka Primary in Sefikile Village, Mokgalwaneng in Mokgalwaneng Village, Sedibelo Secondary in Moruleng Village and Nkobong Secondary schools in Kraalhoek Village.

The Executive Head for Sustainable Development in Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine, Hope Tyira indicated that their goal is to develop communities.

“Our goal is to grow a sustainable business to develop the community. We have headed a goal outlined by the government of improving the lives of the communities”, said Tyira.

The North West Department of Education MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela emphasised that education is a societal matter.

“Education is a societal matter, all stakeholders should come on board to help in the raising up of this child. We then build schools and hand them over to the communities to own them. It is very much unfortunate to see schools of the communities being burnt. These schools are built with tax payers money and we should respect the tax payers”.

“We really appreciate the gesture of Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine and l am appealing to our communities to take care of these beautiful properties. For us to provide quality education to the learners we need a conducive learning environment. Infrastructure plays a very much pivotal role in the education of learners”, said MEC Matsemela.

All the School Governing Bodies who have received the ablution facilities committed to take good care of the donated infrastructure.
