THE 2020 ANNUAL QLTC SUMMIT
North West Department of Education under the leadership of Honourable MEC Mmaphefo Matsemela launched two days Annual Quality Learning and Teaching Summit 2020 under the slogan “Ngwana Sejo o a tlhakanelwa”. A total number of 400 people were invited for the Summit at Rustenburg Kloof Lodge, Bojanala district on the 11 to 12 March 2020. The aim of the summit was to mobilise all stakeholders and business people to play a role in the education of all learners in the sector.
The occasion was graced by Honourable MEC, HOD, DDG, Office of the Premier, Internal and External Stakeholders, SADTU, Gold Rush, Religious Forum, SAPS, National Teachers Union (NATU),Kanana SGBs, South African Principal Association (SAPA), Association of South African Agricultural Educators (ASAAE), Di Kgosi, Royal Bafokeng Institutes, departmental officials, retired Principals, SMT, NGOs, NECT, RCL learners and PEU.
The purpose of the summit was to call upon all Stakeholders to engage with the MEC to synergise education delivery in the Province, to create a platform where different stakeholders could engage and develop strategies that will contribute towards the improvement of teaching and learning. It was also aimed at advocating the honourable MEC’s campaign “Ngwana Sejo o a tlhakanelwa and strengthening relationship between the department and its stakeholders. The summit was also set to embrace the key priorities of the 6th administration as articulated by Parliament in order to achieve the sector’s mandate.
The honourable MEC encouraged all the Stakeholders, SGBs, Principals, SAPS, NGOs, business people and parents to work together in instilling discipline in schools. She further pleaded with Dikgosi and other community members to assist in fighting drugs and substance abuse, gangsterism, bullying, avoid burning of schools, killing of learners and teachers. “Education will never be an apex priority until all learners are in school and community members stop using poor learners to protest for services. We should identify an ambassador with a good standing moral, a person who is going to lead the community and serve as a role model, said MEC Matsemela.
MEC urged all internal and external stakeholders, departmental officials, parents to work with QLTC members to make a commitment to the Code of Quality Education. Four (4) strategic action hubs were formed with the following topics: Improving learner performance (hub1), Encouraging stakeholders participation (hub2), Safety in schools (hub3) and fostering discipline in schools (hub4). The topics were tackled and all teams managed to come up with solutions that will be able to help in making Education an Apex priority.
