NORTH WEST RAISED THE BAR IN THE 2019 NSC RESULTS.
The MEC for North West Department of Education Mmaphefo Lucy Matsemela celebrated the release of 2019 National Senior Certificate Results at a glittering event held at Fields College (Arlene Holding Hall) In Rustenburg on the 8th of January 2020.The event was attended by 600 people.
The purpose of the day was to celebrate the overall success of the 2019 North West Matriculants and most importantly the 20 top learners in the Province. The celebration was to also appreciate the support of everyone who contributed towards the success of the Matric Result. The North West Province proudly obtained position 3 in the 2019 NSC Results.
MEC Matsemela is proud and happy that one of the 10 points priorities (reading) contributed towards the improvement of the 2019 matric results. The MEC said “it is for the first time in the past five years that our Province achieved 86,8% in the NSC examination results. It must be borne in mind that our target for the 2019 matric pass rate in the annual performance plan was 85%, therefore, the meritorious 86.8% pass rate achievement means that we have Outdone ourselves. 2019 was a special year for the 2019 Matriculants because it is the year that Ngwana Sejo wa tlhakanelwa campaign was launched, it has assisted by bringing more help from the community, Parents and teachers”.
The MEC outlined that brief performance track record in the NSC Examination over the past five years depicts that in 2014 North west obtained (84,6%) which is position 2, in 2015 North west obtained 81.5%(Position 4) . In 2016 the position remained the same with 82,5% and in 2017 the percentage dropped to 79,4% but maintained position 4 whilst in 2018 it improved to 81,1% with the same position .MEC Matsemela further explained that ” we are proud to announce that the North West Class of 2019 obtained a pass rate of 86,8% with progressed learners included.
All districts in the province obtained more than 80% pass rate with Bojanala as a leading district in terms of performance. The top learner in the province, Andries Lukas Schoeman from Haartbeespoort High School who hails from Bojanala, obtained seven distinctions and scored a total of 1695 marks in all subjects excluding life orientation and obtained 90% in all his subjects.
The North West Premier Professor Tebogo Job Mokgoro gave the celebratory message, where he commended the department for their performance in the 2019 Matric results for achieving 86,8%, an improvement of 5.6% from the 2018 result.
Professor Tebogo Job Mokgoro said “it gives me a great pleasure to brag about the great result we have witnessed in the province despite all the challenges we have encountered as the North West Province. Even in the midst of challenges such as Community protest for service delivery, which almost disrupted learning processes, SGBs, Principals and Teachers managed to pull through and move to one position higher than the previous year”.
He further applauded the MEC, Teachers, Principals and the entire Department of Education for conducting irregularity free 2019 NSC Examination.
