TWO NW LEARNERS DIE AS A WALL FALL ON THEM, ONE DROWNS IN A DAM

The North West Department of Education received with great sadness the passing on of two learners who passed on after a wall fell on them on Saturday while one drowned in a windmill dam on Monday, 14 December 2020.

The two learners attended at Matlhare Moholo Primary and Tselaathuto Secondary in Itereleng village near Pampierstad and the other learner attended at Molelema Primary School in Taung.

According to family reports the two learners were from the shops when the storm hit their area and caused a wall to fall on them.

Upon learning of the demise the department visited families to send it’s condolences.
A psycho-social team from the department will render it’s support to the families on Friday.

MEC for Education in the North West Mmaphefo Matsemela also takes this time to sends a plea to all parents during this holiday season to be vigilant of their kids whereabouts as some are likely to play near furrows , dams and quarries.

“We are touched and sad as the department upon learning of this incident. In a matter of days we received six death cases of our learners. It is not okay. On behalf of the department I send my sincerest condolences to the bereaved families. Your loss is our great loss.

“I also wish to extend a message of caution to parents to keep an eye on children as some are likely to play near furrows and quarries during holidays. Please ensure that they play where you can see them to avoid unfortunate incidents”. Matsemela said.

Memorial service for the two learners was held on Wednesday, 16 December and of the Taung learner it was held on Thursday, 17 December.

Funeral details will later be communicated by the families.
