PARENTS OF TIRELONG SECONDARY LEARNERS AGREE FOR THEIR CHILDREN TO ATTEND SCHOOL AT AN ALTERNATIVE VENUE

Following a massive vandalism experienced at Tirelong Secondary School near Rustenburg called for the alternative venue for teaching and learning.

Since inland schools across the country will be reopenning from the 10th January 2022, Tirelong Secondary School will not be ready to welcome the learners. The school does not have running water including electricity due to vandalism to the school and many amenities.

The North West Department of Education intervened immediately after realizing that the education of learners would be compromised by vandalism for 2022 academic year. The school has been renovated more than five times by the department and the local mine in a space of two years but vandalism continued non – stop.

In the department’s efforts of protecting education of Tirelong Secondary School learners. The department consulted all relevant stakeholders including parents who unanimously agreed with the proposal of finding an alternative venue for the learners.

The MEC for Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela was satisfied by the response of parents.

“As the North West Education Department we are satisfied by the parents response. The parents agreed unanimously that they want the department to find an alternative venue for teaching and learning since their school will not be ready for the reopenning. As a concerned government we have arranged with other nearby secondary schools to accommodate Tirelong Secondary School learners whilst the department is trying to find a permanent solution to the school problem.

“Parents will not pay any cent on the school uniform and transport for the learners. The department will provide transport for the learners and learners will be allowed to used their Tirelong Secondary School uniform”, said MEC Matsemela.

The logistical arrangements of placing learners to their different schools have already unfolded.
