NW PROVINCE HAS A 2021 AFRICAN UNION CONTINENTAL TEACHER WINNER
The North West Department of Education has again made history in the sector of education by producing a teacher who has won the 2021 African Union Continental Teacher award.
The African Union made an official announcement at an official ceremony held at Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, on Tuesday, 30 November 2021, that Ms Agnes Rasesemola the School principal of Sunrise View Secondary school is the winner of the African Union Continental Teacher Award winner.
Rasesemola appreciated the opportunity provided by the department to represent the country at the AU Continental Teacher Awards.
“I am humbled by winning this colonial award, l wouldn’t have made it without the entire team of colleagues and parents of Sunrise View Secondary school. I want to thank the Basic Department of Education which deemed it fit that I should represent the country at the AU Continental Teacher Awards. This award is not only for me but the people of South Africa and the North West province. I believe my knowledge l have acquired in my journey will benefit the entire sector of education”, said Rasesemola.
The MEC for Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela who was accompanied by the Senior Managers of the department joined Rasesemola in the virtual AU ceremony.
“Mme Rasesemola we journeyed with you throughout the National Teaching awards. Twice you made us proud at national level and it is well deserving of you to be at this African stage to receive the merit as well to be a beacon of hope for all teacher’s and our new recruits. Young people would call it influencers!
“The truth is that Africa needs to have more of Rasesemola’s, more of innovators and more of teachers as it is our patriotic obligation to build a civilized nation. I am confident that this award is going to encourage all our teachers across the country to work extremely hard. Mme Rasesemola you remain a positive role model in front of our eyes. Continue to shine”, said MEC Matsemela.
The winner for the African Union Continental Teacher Awards walked away with an award and prize money.
