NW Education welcomes MEC Motsumi

The North West Department of Education wishes to welcome Ms Viola Ntsetsao Motsumi as the new MEC for Education in the North West as of Wednesday, 07 December 2022.

MEC Motsumi is born and bred in Mahikeng and started her schooling at Stadt Primary School and proceeded to Mmabatho High School.
She (Motsumi) holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA), honours degree in Bachelor in Microbiology from North West university and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) which through this PGCE taught Mathematics and Physics at her alma mater, Mmabatho High School.
After serving for seven years as a teacher, she joined private sector as project manager for North West Development Corporation.

Motsumi also served as a Parliamentary Liaison Officer for education at a time when the department merged with Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture (formerly known as North West Department of Education and Sport Development in 2017-2019. In the same year, she was subsequently sworn in as Member of North West Legislature and a Deputy Speaker for the North West Provincial Legislature, a position she is vacating to serve as the North West Education MEC today.

With her spirit of servitude to the people of North West, the department is undoubtedly proud to have its own holding the fort and wishes the very best.

We have witnessed her passion to serve the people of North West as a teacher, and our parliamentary liaison. We believe she will lead the department to its greatest heights in our quest to continually improve the quality of education in the province. We also sincerely thank the outgoing MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela who gracefully led the department during her tenure.”, said Stephinah Semaswe, the Head of Department.

The department welcomes the new MEC and congratulate her as she assumes her career as a Member of the Executive.
