NW EDUCATION WARNS PARENTS TO BE CAUTIOUS WHEN LEARNERS ARE TRAVELING TO SCHOOLS DUE TO RAINING WEATHER CONDITIONS

The North West Department of Education is warning parents to be extremely cautious when releasing learners to go to school during this rainy period.

The department has learnt that Dirang Ka Natla Secondary School in Klerksdorp is flooded due to torrential rains. Some of the Grade 12 learners started writing late due to the rains.

The MEC for Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela is pleading with parents not to release lower grade learners when they think it’s not safe.

“On behalf of the department, l would like to appeal with parents of lower grades not to release when they see it is not safe to do so. Safety of all learners is our first priority, we do not want to loose lives during this critical period. Parents should inform the school principals whenever learners would not be able to attend due to these rains.

“The department will make arrangements with the Grade 12 parents whenever learners are unable to write. We don’t want any child to remain behind, gake sale”, said MEC Matsemela.

Schools across the province have been informed to work with parents during this period.
