NW EDUCATION URGES SCHOOL PRINCIPALS TO RELEASE LEARNERS REPORT CARDS

As the 2019 academic year is drawing to a close, the North West Department of Education is instructing all schools to release all learner report cards.

The Department has been inundated with calls from concerned parents across the province on schools that refuse to release learner’s report cards and MEC Matsemela raises a stern voice to principals to carry out this unlawful practice.

“I am calling for all principals to release learner reports cards. No learner should be without their year-end academic report for any reason what so ever. In terms of Section 41 (7) of the South African Schools Act says that no learner should be deprived of their right to participate fully in school programmes, this includes receiving a report card. This regulation applies both to public and independent schools from Grade R-12. Failure to adhere to this is a gross violation of the Law”, said Matsemela.

Matsemela further instructed that the law also applies in cases where learner transfer reports are withheld. In the event of owed schools fees principals should enter into agreements with parents on how they will repay the school.

The 2019 Academic Calendar will close on 06 December 2019 and will reopen on 15 January 2020.
