NW EDUCATION URGES PRINCIPALS TO RELEASE ACADEMIC REPORTS

The North West Department of Education is inundated with concerns and complaints that there are School Principals who still withhold learners’ end-of-year report cards for various reasons.
This in spite of several previous instructions which instructed school principals to disist from such outlawed practice.

The MEC for Education Mrs Mmaphefo Matsemela emphasised that under no circumstances should learners’ right to education be undermined.

“I take this time to encourage all schools principals to release academic reports to all learners. If learners owes the school, the debt should be directed to parents not learners”, said MEC Matsemela.

MEC Matsemela further indicated that according to the South African constitution learners have a right to education.

On *15* December 2020, the Grade 12 learners will be writing their last paper of Visual Arts. It is expected that all schools in the North West province should issue learners’ academic report cards by 15 December 2020 for lower grades without any exception.

Next year during the 2021 academic year schools are expected to reopen on 25 January 2021 for Educators whilst learners are expected to return to school on 27 January 2021.

The North West Department of Education takes this time to wish all stakeholders a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
