NW EDUCATION DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATES ALLEGATIONS OF ASSAULT DOING ROUNDS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The North West Department of Education investigates allegations of assault doing rounds on social media to an incident that took place at Milner Secondary School in Klerksdorp on Wednesday, 13 October 2021.

It is alleged that after the school assembly around 8 o’ clock in the morning, the school management noticed that a 17-year-old Grade 10 learner, who was on suspension for other disciplinary issues was seen at school. When addressed about his violation of the suspension rule the learner quarrelled with the teachers, deputy principal and principal and the situation got physical.

MEC for Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela condemned in strongest terms the assault taking place within the school premises.

“I take this time to strongly condemn any act of violence or assault that takes place within our school environment against any educator or learner. I have established a team to conduct an intensive immediate investigation on the incident so that an appropriate action could be taken. The principal has been put on a special leave to allow investigations to run smmoothly without any interruption”, said MEC Matsemela.

Yesterday in a meeting with different stakeholders it was agreed that, teaching and learning to resume today, Friday 15 October 2021.
