NW EDUCATION CONGRATULATES COLIGNY LEARNER ON HIS WIN

The North west Department of Education congratulates Boitumelo Mohulatsi of Coligny Secondary School who won a Virtual Mathematics Competition (VMC2021) also known by Maths geeks as “Mthethwamatics”. The finals were held on Saturday, 06 June 2021.

Mohulatsi (18) came victorious after a compelling competition with other Grade 12 maths geeks from across the country as of March 2021 where each contestant submitted their videos to the Mthethwamatics Facebook page solving various mathematical problems.
Mohulatsi says the competition was informative for him and each problem they had to solve fed his competitive urge.

“This competition taught me that I can do better. With each challenge we solve, not just my own, I learned a lot from others. It [competition] actually taught me that it’s not about what you know but from sharing and understanding concepts that makes you better”, said Mohulatsi.

He [Mohulatsi] further encourages his peers to train their minds not to quit at a challenge but rather to find motivation and says his own motivation comes from online advanced mathematics he does when he is not at school.

“I’d advise my peers to take maths as a challenge. Forget about your background or school you come from, focus on the solving a challenge. That’s the fun thing about mathematics”, he said.

Luckson Gudo who is Mohulatsi’s Mathematics teacher congratulated him for his achievements.

“Today I am extremely proud of what my student has achieved. His discipline, dedication and commitment in his school work were all the ingredients to his success”, said Gudo.

MEC for Education in the North West Mmaphefo Matsemela who has been cheering our bright star from the onset says Mohulatsi has done his school proud.

“I am happy for Boitumelo’s win. His dedication and passion for Mathematics proved his determination. This certainly paves a way for him towards his tertiary studies and I hope that his passion for mathematics is an inspiration to his peers as well. This is an achievement for him, his school and his peers. Many happy returns to him”, Matsemela stated.

The North West department of Education wishes Boitumelo Mohulatsi well.
