MEC MATSEMELA CONGRATULATES NTA WINNERS

The North West MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela congratulated all the winners of the 2019 National Teaching Awards who represented the province at a glittering event held at Soshanguve East Secondary school in Soshanguve near Pretoria on Saturday, 14 February 2020.

The North West province which obtained position 3 in the 2019 National Senior Certificate results continued with its excellent performance as it claimed top positions in the category for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics and Excellence in Secondary School Teaching.

The National Teaching Awards is one important projects aimed at acknowledging and honoring the best teachers in all ordinary public schools.

Last year in October the department selected 11 candidates to represent the province in the national awards. Out of the 11 candidates who competed at national, 9 of them won in different categories.

In the Excellence in Teaching Mathematics category, Constance Kgomotso Pilane from Mafenya Primary School obtained position one together with Genevieve Classen from Fields College in Rustenburg who obtained the first position in the Excellence in Secondary School Teaching category.

Tsholofelo Thati from Atlarelang Primary school obtained position three in the Excellence in Grade – R Teaching category whilst Dorothy Masilo from Lekwakwa Primary school obtained position two in the Primary School Leadership category.

In the Secondary School Leadership, Sahaboodin Abdull from Zinniaville Secondary school in Rustenburg obtained second position whilst Adriana Pretorius from Rustenburg Noord in Rustenburg obtained position three in the Excellence in ICT Enhanced Teaching category.

Ayesha Ismael also from Zinniaville Secondary School in Rustenburg scooped the third position in Excellence in Teaching Natural Sciences (GET) category while Khomotso Madike from Tlamelang Special School obtained the second place.

The third position in the Kader Asmal category went to Arline Hollings the principal of Fields College Combined School in Rustenburg.

The North West Education MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela could not hide her excitement over the results.

“On behalf of the department l am truly happy for this milestone achievement registered by our teachers in the NTA. Truly, teaching is one of the profound professions and it such an honour to reward our teachers through award ceremonies such as these”, said Matsemela.

MEC Matsemela will hold a Gala Dinner with the National Teaching Awards winners at Kingsgate Hotel in Rustenburg on Tuesday, 18 February 2020 at 18:00.
