MEC Lehari condemns a message circulating on social media

The North West Education and Sport Development MEC, Sello Lehari wishes to condemn in its strongest terms the messages circulating on the social media, which says he is busy preparing Gauteng construction and security companies for over R100 Million projects.

MEC Lehari views these messages as misleading and malicious. He does not appoint companies to do the work for the department but there are committees chaired by senior departmental officials which evaluate and chooses the best company to do the work. This information that he want to appoint the Gauteng construction companies is not true and disingenuous from the truth.

MEC Lehari has further noticed that the said message, indicates that he has even removed the current Acting Director for Supply Chain Directorate and replaced her with somebody from the department.

The department wishes to clarify that, the Acting Supply Chain Director was not permanently appointed on that post but was only there on an acting capacity. The official who has replaced the Acting Supply Chain Director, is the one who was permanently appointed there as a Director.

The department would like to put it straight to the public that MEC does not appoint or dismiss directors. Those powers are vested in the Administrator and Head of the Department in their capacities as people dealing with administration of the department.

Therefore, MEC Lehari wishes to assure the entire community of the North West province that all allegations mentioned on the latter message as untrue and misleading. He further highlighted that, everyone who wants to do business with the department should feel free to do so, as in the department there are committees who will evaluate and appoint the qualifying company.

End.
