MATSEMELA SENDS HER CONDOLENCES TO FAMILIES OF 3 LEARNERS WHO SUFFOCATED IN A DEEP FREEZER

The North West Department of Education MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela was shocked to hear about 3 learners from Mammutla Primary school in Mammutla Village near Taung who allegedly died in an unused deep freezer on Saturday, 14 November 2020.

The three deceased learners from Mammutla Primary school were, Refiloe Mooki (8) years old who was in Grade 3, Gogontle Gaolehelwe also 8 years old in Grade 3 and Ipeleng Gaolehelwe, was 10 years old in Grade 4.

It is alleged that on the day of the incident learners were playing in and out game in the deep freezer. They were later found dead in the deep freezer.

MEC Mmaphefo Matsemela expressed her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

“On behalf of the department l would like to convey our sincere condolences to the bereaved families and the entire school community of Mammutla Primary school. This is an unfortunate incident especially now that we are writing final examinations at the moment. It is so heartbeaking to loose three learners all at the same time”, said MEC Matsemela.

MEC Matsemela further indicated that they have established a multi – sectoral committee to provide counselling to the learners, teachers, School Governing body members and family members of the deceased learners.

The funeral of the 3 deceased learners will take place on Saturday, 21 November 2020 at Mammutla Village near Taung.
