INCIDENT FREE PRELIMINARY EXAMINATIONS ENDS IN HIGH SPIRITS FOR THE NORTH WEST GRADE 12 LEARNERS
The incident free preliminary examinations for the Grade 12 learners ended in high spirits for the North West province when they wrote Economics second paper on Friday, 02 October 2020.
The preliminary examinations for the Grade 12 learners started on 14 September 2020 and finished off on 02 October 2020. The purpose of the preliminary examinations is to prepare the Grade 12 learners for their final examinations. The performance of the learners in this examinations is able to assist them to know which areas need to be improved for the final examinations.
The 2020 academic year has been an extremely difficult year as it was characterised by the Covid– 19 virus which affected teaching and learning process immensely. Learners were forced to stay home for more than the usual period without any contact with their teachers. This resulted in them having a backlog in their work, teachers were left behind from their Annual Teaching Programme.
The Political Head of the department MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela expressed her excitement on the smooth running of the examination in the province.
“As a department in the province we are in high spirits that the Preliminary Examination ended up on a positive note. There has been no negative incident reported on the examinations, our learners have been extremely disciplined during this process. We have ensured that we tightened up all the security measures according to the examination standards. No paper was leaked and the examinations were well organized. I remain optimistic that at the end of the year our learners are going to make us proud, they are going to pass their examinations. So far on the papers marked by teachers, there is hope of positive results”, said MEC Matsemela.
MEC Matsemela further thanked the teachers, learners and the entire community for running the incident free examinations.
“We are going to conduct an analysis of the results in all our subjects. We heard that learners complained about the second paper of Mathematics and we will be able to intervene accordingly to help them in those tricky areas”,said MEC Matsemela.
Since the examinations is a combined National Senior Certificate and Senior Certificate Examinations, There are 38 310 full time NSC November 2020 candidates, 15260 Senior Certificate (SC) candidates and 8525 candidates who wish to improve their status from 2019 examinations will be expected to write their final matric examination from 05 November to 15 December 2020.
Marking will commence from the 03 January to 22 January 2021 and results will be released by the Minister on the 22 February 2021 with the MEC releasing on the 23 January 2021.
