FLASH FLOODS IMPACT EDUCATION SERVICES IN THE NW PROVINCE

As of Wednesday, 03 February 2021 some schools in the North West province especially in the area of Greater Taung are inaccessible due to heavy rains.

This means a halt in the education services as teachers in the affected schools could not report for duty. No damages have been reported in schools as yet.

North West education MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela sends a word of caution to teachers and parents.

“We have been notified of flash floods that caused schools to be inaccessible in the province.

We urge teachers in affected areas not to risk their lives crossing over until the water subsides. This is at the best interest of teacher’s lives. We are also hoping school building are not affected.

“I also plead with parents to ensure children are safe at home and always under supervision during these floods”, said Matsemela.

Currently, teachers have reopened to prepare for admission of learners on 15 February 2021.
