NW Education MEC sends her condolences to the Makgoe family following the demise of FS Education MEC, Tate Makgoe

The MEC for Education in the North West province, Viola Motsumi received with great grief the untimely demise of Free State MEC Tate Makgoe in the early hours of Sunday, 05 March 2023.

According to official reports, MEC Makgoe’s car collided with two cows and three occupants were in the car. He [Makgoe] and one protector were declared dead on the scene while the driver is in a moderate condition in hospital.

Motsumi joins the education community to send her heartfelt condolences to the Makgoe family as they draw curtains during this tough time.

“It’s indeed an untimely demise. One that’s closer to home where my colleague, my brother, and comrade met his death. It’s days like these we’re reminded that life is too short and is to be lived thoroughly. My brother lived his life and stamped it with excellence where he outstandingly put the Free State province in a high pedestal for four consecutive years when it can with matric results. Death has robbed us of this star and today, on behalf of the North West department of education, I join the education community to share gratitude to the Makgoe family for borrowing us this giant. His name is now written in the stars because you selflessly gave him to us. His level of pedigree is unmatched. It is not easy, but we ask the Lord Almighty to be your guide and your comfort during this difficult time”, said Motsumi.

With sadness we thank him for his sacrifice and revolutionising the South African education system. We also extend our sincere condolences to family of the VIP protector who passed alongside with him and wish perfect recovery to the surviving protector.
