13 LEARNERS INVOLVED IN A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT

The North West Education MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela was shocked to learn about a horrible accident which involved 13 learners who were travelling to school in a bakkie between Matsheng and Kokomeng Villages near Taung on Wednesday, 21 August 2019.

It is alleged that the learners who attend school at Seabo Secondary school in Kokomeng Village were travelling in a bakkie around 07:30, when the driver lost control while approaching a sharp curve.

MEC Matsemela who was shocked by the horrible accident, expressed that this is a second accident in one month.

“I am really shocked and disturbed by this horrible accident that involves our learners. This is now a second accident which has happened within a short space of time. I would like to again make a stern appeal to all our drivers who transport learners to schools, to be extremely careful. They should be cautious whenever they drive with our children and parents should monitor them”, said MEC Matsemela.

MEC Matsemela appealed to parents to make sure that drivers who transport their children are qualified and responsible. She said, parents are the ones who pay for transport and they should be in charge of making a decision on who is transporting their children.

It is reported that, five learners were in a critical condition whilst eight were treated for minor injuries for headache and back injuries.

The department has arranged counselling for learners and their families.
